Police agencies in Yates County will step up impaired-driving enforcement from Friday, Oct. 30, through Sunday, Nov. 1.
Sheriff Frank Ryan announced the effort as part of the statewide STOP-DWI Halloween High Visibility Engagement Campaign, speaking on behalf of the county’s STOP-DWI program and Traffic Safety Board.
“Drivers should be extra cautious on Halloween, as more pedestrians are out at night on the hunt for candy,” Ryan said in the release.
He said law enforcement officers and STOP-DWI programs across New York will make special efforts during the holiday to stop impaired or buzzed driving, prevent injuries and save lives.
STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee promote high-visibility campaigns around several holidays and special dates, with the aim of reducing drunk and impaired driving.
The announcement also urges people celebrating Halloween to plan a safe ride. Its message is: “Be Smart. Have a plan for a safe ride.”
