The owner of a Saratoga County medical transportation company faces felony charges after investigators accused him of billing Medicaid for more than $700,000 in fraudulent trips, including rides that never occurred.
Rohan Crosdale, 40, of Ballston Spa, owner of Smart Choice Temp Agency Inc., was charged with two counts of second-degree grand larceny, one count of third-degree grand larceny and one count of prohibited practices, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office.
Investigators put the suspected fraud at $714,663.95 over a four-year period.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office contacted the comptroller's office in May 2024 for help investigating the company's Medicaid billing, leading to an investigation and forensic audit.
Authorities said the company used several billing schemes, including claiming payment for transportation services that did not take place.
Crosdale has been enrolled as a Medicaid provider since February 2020 and is the company's sole owner.
DiNapoli announced the arrest with Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby, Sheriff Jeffrey Brown and Acting Medicaid Inspector General Frank Walsh Jr.
Eby said Medicaid fraud diverts taxpayer money from people who rely on the program, while Walsh said transportation services are a vital connection to care for Medicaid recipients.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Investigations Bureau Chief Meghan Horton and Senior Assistant District Attorney Andreanna Diliberto.
Crosdale appeared before Judge James Davis in Saratoga County Court and is due back Nov. 25.
