Newark Department of Public Works foreman Doug Townsend will retire at the end of October after 30 years of service to the village.

An Oct. 30 reception will honor Townsend, according to a village news release.

Mayor Taylor said Townsend has been involved in all aspects of public works and served on committees for cemeteries, Community Pride Day and Home for the Holidays.

“Doug’s expertise regarding trees and plants will be difficult to replace,” Taylor said.

“Doug has worked tirelessly to make Newark a better place to live and raise a family,” Mark Perry said.

The reception will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at Doug Kent’s Rose Bowl Lanes, 725 W. Miller St. People are invited to stop in any time during those hours to wish Townsend well.
