State Sen. Jeremy Cooney plans to convene state and local leaders Wednesday to discuss expanding financial services for families with low incomes in Rochester, after securing $117,500 in the 2026-27 state budget for Empire Justice Center's CASH program.
The 2 p.m. Oct. 21 discussion is scheduled for the fourth floor of the Central Library of Rochester's Bausch & Lomb building, 115 South Ave., according to an advisory from Cooney's office.
Barbara Guinn, commissioner of the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, is expected to join Cooney, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and Yversha Roman, director of CASH.
CASH stands for Creating Assets, Savings and Hope. The participants are expected to hear from people who have used the program and other tax advocacy services, and discuss how state and local partners can strengthen that support.
