State Sen. Jeremy Cooney held an impeachment-themed pie contest Sunday at his campaign headquarters in Brighton, mixing a baking competition with criticism of the federal government's political climate.
The free gathering invited residents to bake and taste pies, and winners received prizes from local small businesses, according to a release from Cooney's campaign.
“At a time when so much hateful rhetoric is spreading across the nation, we wanted to give neighbors a positive way to come together — and what better way than through food and friendly competition?” Cooney said. “I'm grateful to everyone who baked a pie, joined the testing, and came out to support.”
The campaign said guest judges included Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle, Rochester City School District board member Isaiah Santiago, Henrietta Town Councilmember Millie Sefranek and Gates town supervisor candidate Nick Coffee.
