Some New York seniors and advocates say Social Security's 3.6% increase for 2027 may fall short of their rising costs, according to Spectrum News 1.
The Social Security Administration estimates the adjustment will add about $75 a month to the average retirement benefit.
Becky Preve of the Association on Aging in New York said higher grocery, fuel and prescription costs are stretching older residents' budgets.
Todd Vaarwerk of Western New York Independent Living warned that a larger check could affect eligibility for other income-based assistance.
He and Preve urged people to ask local advocacy groups whether they qualify for additional benefits.
