Auburn brings back State of the Sites with free Oct. 15 program

Auburn's historic and cultural organizations will share preservation work, recent accomplishments and future plans at a free State of the Sites program Thursday, Oct. 15.

The event returns after more than a decade and marks 25 years since the first program in 2001, according to the city's announcement.

The City of Auburn Historic and Cultural Sites Commission is hosting the community event at the Cayuga Museum's Carriage House Theater, 203 Genesee St. Doors open for breakfast at 8 a.m., with the program running from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Auburn Bagel Co. and Simple Roast Coffee will provide the complimentary breakfast, according to the event poster.

Speakers and participating sites

State Sen. Rachel May will give opening remarks. Presenters include commission Chair Sydney Fischer, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad New York Scenic Byway Executive Director Ally Spongr-Degon and Tour Cayuga Executive Director Courtney Kasper.

Attendees will also receive a full sites report. The program will highlight the organizations' work and tourism's role in Auburn's community and economy.

Participating organizations include Seward House Museum, the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center, Cayuga Museum of History and Art, Schweinfurth Art Center, Auburn Public Theater, Willard Memorial Chapel and Seymour Library.

The city also lists Harriet Tubman Home Inc., Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and Fort Hill Cemetery among the participants.

Admission is free and open to the public, with RSVPs through Eventbrite.

The event is organized in partnership with the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce and Auburn Downtown Business Improvement District.
