Drivers on Interstate 81 through Syracuse should expect lane reductions Thursday, Oct. 8, while state crews inspect bridges. The restrictions are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in both directions.
The New York State Department of Transportation advisory says I-81 northbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 18 at Adams and Harrison streets and Exit 22 at Court Street. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between Exit 19 at Clinton and Salina streets and Exit 18 at Harrison and Adams streets.
The work is for bridge inspections, not the separate construction restrictions previously announced for the I-81 corridor. DOT did not announce a full closure or a detour for Thursdayās inspections.
The schedule is weather-dependent and may change. Drivers should slow down in the work zones and allow extra time if traveling through those stretches during the inspection window.
DOT directs travelers to 511NY for current road conditions and updates. Its advisory also lists 511 as a phone option.
