Fairport Lift Bridge is among eight New York landmarks set to glow yellow Wednesday as the state marks the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also directed flags on state buildings to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset, according to the governor’s announcement.
The Israeli flag will be flown at the state Capitol and Empire State Plaza in Albany, the governor’s office said. Hochul described the observances as a remembrance of those killed and a sign of solidarity with survivors and families.
The Fairport bridge over the Erie Canal is the only Finger Lakes-area landmark on the state’s list. The other sites include the State Fairgrounds’ Main Gate and Expo Center in Syracuse, the H. Carl McCall SUNY Building and Alfred E. Smith State Office Building in Albany, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, Grand Central Terminal’s Pershing Square Viaduct and the Long Island Rail Road’s East End Gateway at Penn Station.
The lighting and flag directives apply to Wednesday’s anniversary observance, according to the announcement.
