Auburn residents will have an opportunity to help shape improvements to Cottage Place Park, a West Street neighborhood park where playground equipment has been absent for more than a decade.
The city will hold a public input meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the park. If bad weather forces a change, the meeting will move to Casey Park Recreation Center.
The 1.2-acre park is primarily open lawn, with substantial tree cover around its edges. City officials describe it as a blank slate for future improvements and note that neighbors value the mulberry trees along its northern side.
The surrounding neighborhood includes seniors, single adults and families with children. The meeting is intended to gather community ideas about the park’s future before improvements move forward.
Cottage Place is one of Auburn’s 23 city-owned parks. Funding for the project will come through the federal Community Development Block Grant program, with the improvements identified as a public facility project in the city’s adopted 2026 annual action plan.
The project is part of Auburn’s implementation of its 2025-2029 CDBG consolidated plan, which guides community development projects and programs throughout the city.
Auburn’s Office of Planning and Economic Development will oversee the project, including financial administration, consultant management, community outreach and completion of the improvements.
The announcement does not identify a final design, project budget or construction schedule.
