Any way you slice it, just about everyone enjoys eating pie.
Baking pies, however, can be tricky and time-consuming, so that’s where the Thompson Health Guild dons its apron. Through Oct. 23 at www.ThompsonHealth.com/Pie, they’re accepting orders for their Pie Sale, back by popular demand.
With the holiday season coming up, customers appreciate the convenience, according to event chairperson Mary Green.
“People are so busy, and the pies come frozen, so it’s so much easier to just throw them in the freezer and then thaw them or pop them in the oven when you’re ready,” she said.
Made by Special Touch Bakery in Rochester — a not-for-profit dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities to people of all abilities — the 10-inch pies are either $20 or $25 each, depending on the variety. There are seven to choose from this year: Holy Cannoli, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Pecan, Rumbleberry, Apple Crumb, Chocolate Cream, and Cherry.
Pre-ordered pies may be picked up on Monday, Nov. 9, between 3 and 6 p.m. at the pole barn behind F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Enter the parking lot from West Street, via The Thompson Way.
Proceeds will benefit the Guild, which is the auxiliary for University of Rochester Medicine Thompson Health. The non-profit fundraising organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The funds raised by the Guild help the nonprofit health system expand its facilities, purchase needed equipment, and offer helpful programs for patients, senior living residents, staff, and community members.
F.F. Thompson Foundation Director Heather Rickett, whose family especially enjoys the pecan pies and chocolate peanut butter pies, said the Guild has been one of the biggest supporters of Thompson for over a century.
“Year in and year out, through fundraisers like their Pie Sale and countless other initiatives, Guild members have worked hard to help ensure we have the resources to provide our patients and residents with exceptional facilities and care,” Rickett said. “Our immense gratitude is beyond words, and we love that with something like the Pie Sale, Guild members give the very people who will benefit from their work an opportunity to help make it successful.”
