Yates County to hold drive-through prescription drug take-back Oct. 24

Yates County residents can drop off unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the rear of the county courthouse, 415 Liberty St. in Penn Yan.

The free drive-through collection is part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Sheriff’s deputies will accept medications anonymously, with no questions asked, and arrange for their destruction.

Sheriff Frank Ryan said the event gives residents a way to dispose of medications without leaving them available for misuse or flushing them into the water system.

A permanent medication drop box is also available around the clock at the Sheriff’s Office in Penn Yan’s Public Safety Building.
