Cornell women’s volleyball remained unbeaten in Ivy League play Saturday night, holding off Princeton in a competitive three-set sweep at Dillon Gym. The Big Red won 25-22, 25-23 and 27-25 to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Cornell’s offense produced 45 kills while hitting .340 as a team, with the Big Red also recording 10 blocks and four service aces. Princeton finished the night with a .215 hitting percentage.
Ava Bogan led Cornell with 11 kills while hitting .500 and added a match-high six blocks for 14.5 points. Mackenzie Parsons and Jaida Sione each finished with 10 kills, with Parsons hitting .400 and adding three blocks.
Kiran Rio contributed eight kills, four digs and an ace, while Mary Wolcott directed the offense with 35 assists. Wolcott also added four kills, five digs and three blocks. Trinidy Tien led Cornell with seven digs, while Haley Clark recorded two aces.
Cornell established control early in the opening set, building a lead before Princeton mounted a late push. The Big Red responded to secure the 25-22 victory.
Princeton again challenged Cornell in the second set, overcoming a three-point deficit to take a 22-20 lead. The Big Red answered with four of the final five points, capped by a block from Bogan and Sione, to move within one set of the sweep.
The third set went down to the wire. Cornell led 24-21 before Princeton rallied to take a 25-24 advantage. Bogan answered with a kill to tie the set, then teamed with Zanca for a block before Clark delivered a service ace to finish the match.
Cornell returns home Friday, October 9, to host Dartmouth at 6 p.m. before facing Harvard Saturday at 5 p.m.
