New York gas averages $4.48 as national prices ease after record September

New York gas averages .48 as national prices ease after record September

New York drivers paid an average of about $4.48 for a gallon of regular gasoline Thursday, Oct. 1, as the national average slipped nearly 7 cents in a week. The decline offered little relief after what AAA called a record-setting September at the pump.

The AAA fuel-price report put the national regular-gas average at $4.41 a gallon. September's national monthly average was $4.33, 50 cents above the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023, the organization said.

AAA's New York price data, dated Oct. 1, showed a statewide average of $4.4816 for regular gas. That was slightly below the previous week's $4.4895, but about 24 cents above the average a month earlier and $1.28 above the year-earlier figure. The comparisons are statewide averages, not a price at any particular station.

The Rochester metro average was about $4.42, while Syracuse averaged about $4.38. Both were down slightly from a week earlier, according to AAA. Prices vary by county and station.

AAA said crude oil had moved back into the $90-per-barrel range, contributing to the national weekly decline. It cautioned that the national pump average remained the highest on record for this time of year despite the dip.

Diesel remained costly in New York. AAA listed the statewide diesel average at about $6.52 on Oct. 1, compared with about $5.78 a month earlier. The Rochester metro diesel average was about $6.41.

The average price of electricity at public electric-vehicle charging stations was unchanged at 42 cents per kilowatt-hour nationally, AAA said. The agency updates its fuel-price figures daily, so the Oct. 1 numbers are a dated snapshot rather than a forecast for the coming week.
