An 18-year-old Rochester man faces six felony charges after investigators connected him to burglaries at two Farmington homes, the theft of three vehicles and a stolen dirt bike in Victor, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies arrested Bryant Byrd Jr. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Monroe County Probation Department. The sheriff's office charged him with two counts of second-degree burglary and four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.
Investigators said Byrd entered two separate homes in the Ackerman Way area of Farmington and stole items that included keys to the homeowners' vehicles. Three vehicles were then stolen, accounting for three of the grand larceny counts, according to the sheriff's release.
The fourth grand larceny count involves a dirt bike worth more than $1,000 that investigators said Byrd stole from a property in the town of Victor. The release did not specify when the burglaries or thefts occurred.
Byrd was taken to the Ontario County Jail and held on $5,000 cash bail, the sheriff's office said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for noon Friday, Oct. 2, in Farmington Town Court.
Sheriff David Cirencione credited investigators, deputies and the Crime Scene Unit for the arrest. He said neighbors and other residents supplied camera footage and tips after the office asked the public for leads.
Cirencione also said New York State Police, the Monroe and Wayne county sheriff's offices, and police in Rochester, Ogden and Irondequoit assisted. The investigation remains open, and the sheriff's office said arrests of additional subjects are pending.
