United Way of Cayuga County is collecting personal-care donations through Oct. 16 and inviting residents to an October lineup that includes a hygiene drive, reading activities and its annual breakfast program in Auburn.
The organization outlined the dates in its October newsletter sent Saturday. Its personal-care drive runs from Aug. 6 through Oct. 16, collecting soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products and other necessities for individuals and families across Cayuga County.
Annual program includes ALICE simulation
The annual gathering is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn, from 9 to 11 a.m. The program begins at 9:20 a.m., according to the newsletter.
Tickets cost $15 per person and include breakfast, an ALICE simulation and the formal program. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, a framework the organization uses to discuss households struggling to cover basic expenses.
United Way says the simulation and a brief discussion will precede annual business, including an election of board officers, welcoming new members and recognizing outgoing members. Details and registration are available on its annual meeting page.

Haunts for Hygiene, a personal-care drive at The Chase Manor, is listed for Saturday, Oct. 3. A United Way and Catalyst Cayuga learning and networking event follows Thursday, Oct. 8, with registration due by noon Monday, Sept. 28.
