A Fort Erie, Ontario, man was sentenced to three years in federal prison after U.S. border officers found methamphetamine and fentanyl in his belongings during a Peace Bridge inspection.
Eric Hagen, 57, was convicted of importing controlled substances and sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Arcara, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.
Customs and Border Protection officers encountered Hagen at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry on Aug. 1, 2025, and referred him for a secondary inspection, prosecutors said.
During that inspection, officers found several cellphones, hard drives, a laptop and a baby monitor, along with two plastic containers holding methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the federal office. The release did not specify the drugs' quantities.
Prosecutors also said Hagen had been convicted of possessing child pornography in St. Catharines, Ontario, in June 2024. The release did not say that conviction was part of the federal importation charge.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Adler and Sasha Mascarenhas prosecuted the case. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation.
