ArtSpace36 in downtown Canandaigua will close Richard Metzgar's “Mapping Landscape on Satterly Hill” exhibit with a free public reception and artist talk Thursday, October 8.
The reception runs from 4:30 to 6 in the evening and will include refreshments, according to Finger Lakes Community College's event listing, which identifies Metzgar as a professor of two- and three-dimensional design at SUNY Oswego.
His work explores place, time, history and mapping. Since 1999, he has collaborated with artist Paul Bartow as Bartow + Metzgar on large multimedia installations in the United States and Canada. A multiyear project maps the Erie Canal and connected waterways through human and nonhuman drawing.
The exhibit is on view through Oct. 8 at ArtSpace36, 36 S. Main St. The gallery is operated by FLCC and shares space with Gallery 32, which is run by the Ontario County Arts Council.
Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The closing reception is free and open to the public.
