The national average price of regular gasoline reached $4.48 a gallon Thursday, nearly 5 cents higher than a week earlier, according to AAA. The group said that is the highest national average it has recorded for this time of year.
In its Sept. 24 fuel-price report, AAA attributed the increase to high crude-oil costs and continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. Gas prices typically fall at the start of autumn, it said.
The September average so far is $4.30 a gallon, AAA said. That would exceed the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023 if the monthly average holds through the end of the month.
The national average price at public electric-vehicle charging stations was unchanged over the past week at 42 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to AAA.
