A Syracuse man was charged with criminal contempt after deputies said he sent a text message to a person protected by a full stay-away order in the town of Brutus.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to the reported violation at about 9:35 p.m. August 13 and investigated the recipient's allegation.
Investigators identified the accused man as Ricky R. Verean, 45, and said he later agreed to turn himself in at the sheriff's office.
Deputies arrested him at about 12:33 p.m. September 4 and charged him with second-degree criminal contempt, a class A misdemeanor.
At centralized arraignment, Verean was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, the sheriff's office said.
