Cayuga Medical Center nurses received the Mother Jones Award during Ithaca’s 40th Labor Day Picnic, according to WENY.
The Tompkins County Workers’ Center used the Stewart Park gathering to recognize local labor organizing and workers’ rights efforts.
The hospital’s registered nurses voted in January to form a union.
Their union, Cayuga United CWA, is still negotiating its first collective bargaining agreement.
The picnic also featured a community cookout and live music.
