The New York Mets powered their way to a series-opening victory Friday night, hitting five home runs while holding off the San Francisco Giants for a 10-6 win.
Mark Vientos got the Mets started in the first inning, launching a three-run homer to right field against Matt Wilkinson to give New York an early 3-0 advantage. It was Vientos’ second home run in four games since returning from the injured list and his 13th of the season.
Francisco Alvarez added to the lead in the second inning with a solo shot to right-center field. Juan Soto later drove in Nick Morabito on a fielder’s choice before Bo Bichette followed with a two-run homer, putting the Mets ahead 7-0.
Nolan McLean provided a strong start on the mound, working six innings and throwing a career-high 105 pitches. The right-hander surrendered two runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking four.
McLean worked through trouble throughout his outing, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the fifth inning with a strikeout and a 4-6-3 double play. He returned for the sixth and retired the Giants in order, finishing his night with an inning-ending strikeout.
Francisco Lindor extended New York’s advantage with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, but San Francisco mounted a late comeback. Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer in the eighth to cut the deficit to three runs.
Alvarez answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, crushing his second home run of the night to restore the Mets’ four-run cushion. It marked the third multi-home run game of his career this season and the eighth of his career, giving him 15 home runs in 2026.
Kodai Senga then closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Mets and Giants continue their series Saturday at 4:10 p.m. Zac Thornton will start for New York against Anthony Molina.
