The Seneca Falls Town Board will consider overriding the state’s 2% property tax levy limit tonight as part of a meeting that also includes a series of water and sewer changes, staffing decisions and public presentations on landfill leachate and the town’s finances.
The Sept. 1 meeting will begin with a public hearing on the proposed tax cap override before the board considers a resolution formally authorizing the local law. An override would give the town flexibility to adopt a future budget exceeding the state-calculated property tax levy limit, but tonight’s action would not itself establish the town’s 2027 tax levy.
Water and sewer operations make up a significant portion of the meeting’s agenda. The board is scheduled to consider adopting a new utility billing and collection policy, amending the town’s contract for interim water and sewer operations management services and assigning management and supervision of the water and sewer field distribution maintenance team to the Department of Public Works.
Another resolution would authorize revisions to water and wastewater positions. The agenda does not detail the specific changes proposed for those jobs.
Infrastructure work is also on the schedule. The board will consider authorizing restoration of asphalt pavement on Lake Road following an emergency culvert replacement and a storm sewer replacement project on Maynard Street that includes a memorandum of understanding and transfer of contingency funds.
Several personnel measures are also scheduled for consideration, including creation of Staff Resources Assistant and Staff Resources Assistant II positions, reclassification of four clerks, an amendment involving a court clerk position and permanent part-time reclassification of an employee identified on the agenda as Angotti. The Highway Department is also seeking authorization to hire two laborers.
Two items tabled at the board’s previous meeting are set to return. One would authorize the town clerk and highway superintendent to enter into a contract for WEX fleet fuel cards. The other would authorize the town clerk to provide in-home services to homebound residents.
The board will also consider establishing an annual employee training program covering sexual harassment prevention, workplace violence prevention and cybersecurity awareness. Other agenda items include police department desktop computers, travel expenses for Police Chief Tim Snyder and a sergeant attending the 2026 Axon Summit, purchases for a town composting trial and additional money for cemetery fuel.
Several residents and organizations are scheduled to address the board later in the meeting.
Michael Coia, identified on the agenda as an environmental consultant, is expected to discuss landfill leachate environmental issues. Brad Jones is scheduled to speak about concerns regarding fiscal integrity, while Haley Kroon of Blue Wave Energy is also listed as a petitioner. A representative from the It’s A Wonderful Life Museum is expected to provide an update on the 80th anniversary celebration.
The anniversary is one of several upcoming community events appearing on tonight’s agenda. The board is scheduled to consider matters related to a Sept. 26 car show, the second annual Sip, Savor & Stage event Sept. 29, the It’s a Wonderful Life Festival from Dec. 9-13 and the It’s a Wonderful Run 5K on Dec. 12.
The board will also consider a letter of no objection for live and recorded music at Rhizo Remedy, along with routine matters including water leak and pool credits and payment of bills. An executive session is listed near the end of the agenda, although the agenda does not state the subject expected to be discussed behind closed doors.
The regular meeting is scheduled for tonight at Seneca Falls Town Hall.
