Gov. Kathy Hochul urged New Yorkers to monitor forecasts Thursday as thunderstorms threatened damaging winds, hail, flash flooding and an isolated tornado.
A flood watch was in effect through the evening for parts of New York City and the Mid-Hudson region. Hochul said some storms could produce rain at rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour.
Urban and low-lying areas faced the greatest flash-flood risk, while scattered to numerous showers and storms were expected across the state during the afternoon and early evening.
Residents were encouraged to sign up for state emergency alerts by texting 333-111 and to continue checking local forecasts as conditions changed.
