Food banks across New York will receive nearly 5 million eggs under a multistate price-fixing settlement with three major producers, Attorney General Letitia James announced.
The latest delivery sent more than 270,000 eggs to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in Latham for distribution through more than 1,000 partner agencies.
New York is expected to receive 4,968,000 eggs in all. The nationwide settlement calls for Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum and Hickman's Egg Ranch to provide 53 million eggs across 17 participating states and pay $3.3 million.
Investigators alleged the companies coordinated bidding strategies beginning by at least 2022 to influence a widely used egg-price benchmark, artificially raising costs for retailers and consumers.
The companies also agreed to changes intended to prevent future violations. The Latham shipment was the ninth in a series of deliveries to New York food banks.
