A Waterloo man was charged after deputies said he grabbed a 12-year-old's arm, verbally accosted the child and tried to push the child down a flight of stairs.

Deputies identified the man as Jermaine G. Battle. They responded to the area of Border City Road and Waterloo Geneva Road for a reported disorderly conduct incident and interviewed the people involved.

Battle was taken into custody without incident and brought to Seneca County centralized arraignment court, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office requested an order of protection on the child's behalf.
