New York health officials say childhood vaccination requirements remain unchanged despite a new federal executive order altering some vaccine recommendations, according to Spectrum News.
The order recommends 12 vaccines and calls for the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine to be given as three separate shots instead of the current combination vaccine.
State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said the order included no new scientific evidence and parents should not expect immediate changes at pediatrician visits.
McDonald said separating the MMR vaccine could take years because the individual components are not currently manufactured and would require FDA approval.
New York retains authority over vaccination requirements for schools because those rules are established by states rather than the federal government.
