Canandaigua fell short of a world record Saturday but drew 306 people for a downtown singing bowl ensemble, according to the Canandaigua Messenger. Participants played Himalayan singing bowls together for five minutes during the Canandaigua Rising in Unity event.
The attempt began at 4:44 p.m. at Central on Main and Commons Park.
Organizers used a drone and people on the ground to document the attempt and confirm each bowl produced a continuous sound.
The current record remains 375 participants, set April 26, 2025, in Gaya, India.
Downtown Canandaigua Business Improvement District officials said the event still brought families and community members together for a shared experience.
