Golisano Children's has launched a mobile pediatric clinic that will bring well-child visits, immunizations and primary care support to schools, shelters, community centers and youth organizations across Rochester.
The Pediatric Mobile Clinic Initiative will serve children and adolescents through age 21 regardless of insurance status or housing situation. The program will begin in the city and is expected to expand across Monroe County as additional partnerships are established.
University of Rochester Medicine developed the initiative with consultation from Children's Health Fund and local providers, community groups, families and young people. Rochester artist Shawn Dunwoody created the vehicle's child-centered design.
The program is intended both to provide immediate care and to reconnect patients with established primary care practices or help them find a long-term provider. Officials said placing the unit at trusted community locations could reduce barriers created by housing instability and other circumstances.
The initiative was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by health care providers, donors and community and city leaders. LeChase Construction provided leadership support, with additional funding from other donors and partners.
The mobile unit is scheduled to visit multiple Rochester locations during the summer and fall. Golisano Children's said its website will be updated as appearances are scheduled.
