Nine members of the Tompkins County Legislature signed a letter urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign a one-year data center moratorium bill despite her recent executive order on the issue, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The legislators said they would become “single-issue votes” unless the governor signs the Responsible Data Center Development Act before the November election.
Hochul’s executive order pauses state permitting and directs a review of environmental impacts, but critics argue it contains broader exceptions than the pending legislation.
The letter cites concerns about legal disputes, public records costs, energy demand and potential impacts on Cayuga Lake while urging Hochul to approve the bill.
