Stokoe Farms is asking Gov. Kathy Hochul to veto legislation that would end its traveling educational programs involving kangaroos and wallabies, according to RochesterFirst.
The measure has passed the state Senate and Assembly and would restrict certain animals from being used in traveling acts.
Farm co-owner Suzanne Stokoe said the proposal would unfairly classify the farm’s outreach program with circus performances.
The farm has brought animals to nearly 100 off-site visits, including nursing homes, day cares, scout groups and community events.
Lollypop Farm supports the legislation, while the bill would still allow Stokoe Farms to keep the animals and host educational programs on its property.
