Three visitors were arrested in separate attempts to bring marijuana, opioids and THC products into Cayuga Correctional Facility, including one case in which a mother allegedly had her 11-year-old daughter conceal marijuana, a correction officers union said.
The first arrest followed a June 14 screening in which a narcotics-detection dog alerted to the child, according to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association. Investigators said the mother surrendered a bundle containing about 15 grams of suspected marijuana that had been hidden in the child's pants.
The woman, who was visiting from the Bronx, was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and taken to the State Police barracks in Moravia for processing. The release did not identify her.
Two more arrests occurred July 12. A Philadelphia man allegedly surrendered five bundles after a dog alerted to him, including about 20 grams of suspected marijuana and pills that tested positive for OxyContin and buprenorphine.
He was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony. Later that day, a woman from West Monroe allegedly surrendered a bundle containing a wax substance that tested positive for THC and was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband.
All recovered substances were secured as evidence, the union said. The release did not provide court dates or identify the two visitors arrested July 12.
