Nine people spoke against the decision during the Moravia Central School District Board of Education meeting on June 10. Residents said the center has become an important community resource since opening to the public in 2021 and questioned whether budget concerns justified shutting it down.

Former board member Jackie Schnurr and resident Justin Perkins urged district leaders to consider alternatives, including restoring membership fees, reducing hours, or using volunteers. Residents said the closure undermines trust in the budgeting process and leaves the rural community with fewer recreational options. Interim Superintendent Thomas Turck did not respond to a request for comment.
