Android 17 Wi-Fi Bug Reported by Reddit Users Following Latest Update

Android 17 Wi-Fi Bug Reported by Reddit Users Following Latest Update

Another problem is plaguing Pixel owners after the latest update, with Reddit users say a Wi-Fi bug on Android 17. Some note have reported that after installing Android 17, Wi-Fi connects normally, but several Google apps do not load properly. Users are reporting Wi-Fi issues on Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, Play Store, Google Keep, and Google Photos. Interestingly, some users said these apps work fine on mobile data, which makes the problem more confusing. This suggests that the bug may not be a typical router or internet problem for everyone. While the bug appears to be fairly widespread and Google has yet to make a wide public statement. Owners of affected Pixels could try basic network troubleshooting, reset their Wi-Fi settings or use mobile data in the interim until a stable update comes out.

What Reddit Users are Reporting

Reddit users are complaining about a weird Android 17 Wi-Fi issue after the latest update. According to user reports, the phone remains connected to Wi-Fi but Google apps don’t load data. This makes the bug different from a regular Wi-Fi disconnection problem.  According to reports Google apps only fail on Wi-Fi and non-Google apps continue to work just fine. Some users report that the issue is fixed right away when they switch to mobile data. This pattern has led many Pixel owners to suspect that the issue may be related to Android 17 networking, Google services, DNS or app communication. However, not all Pixel users are affected, so it could be down to device model, router type, app version or location.

Which Apps and Devices May Be Affected

The reported Android 17 Wi-Fi bug appears mainly connected with Pixel phones, because Android 17 first rolled out to supported Pixel devices. Reddit users have mentioned problems with Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, Play Store, Google Keep, and Google Photos. Some users also say Google Messages for web may not work properly on Wi-Fi. The problem does not appear to be the same for everyone.

Possible Reasons Behind the Wi-Fi Bug

The Android 17 Wi-Fi bug’s exact cause is not officially confirmed. But, users are reporting that the issue might be with the network handling after the update. Occasionally, a major Android update can create problems with DNS, private DNS settings, router compatibility, VPN profiles, cached network data, or Google Play services. Sometimes saved Wi-Fi settings from an older Android version may not work perfectly after a new system update. Another possibility: After Android 17, some Google apps might be struggling to communicate over Wi-Fi. Users should not immediately assume hardware failure as the same phone can work fine on mobile data.
