A Syracuse man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies say he assaulted a woman, damaged property and threatened her with a knife during a domestic dispute in the Town of Sennett.
Nareik Lassiter, 23, was arrested June 13 following an investigation into an incident at a residence on Sennett. Deputies were dispatched to the home at about 4:38 p.m. for a reported physical domestic dispute and took Lassiter into custody eight minutes later.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told deputies she locked herself inside a vehicle during an argument with Lassiter. Investigators said Lassiter broke a window of the vehicle, causing the woman to exit, and then punched and kicked her. When the victim said she intended to call 911, deputies allege Lassiter took her phone and damaged it.
The woman later locked herself in a bathroom inside the residence, according to investigators. Deputies said Lassiter then punched the bathroom door and stabbed it with a knife while she remained inside. Authorities said the incident occurred in the presence of three children under the age of 17.
Lassiter was charged with aggravated family offense, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree menacing, attempted third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief. Authorities said a prior domestic violence conviction elevated the aggravated family offense and weapon charges.
Following arraignment through the centralized arraignment process, a court issued an order of protection on behalf of the victim. Lassiter was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail pending $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
