A Moravia man will serve state prison time after being sentenced on a felony drunken driving conviction stemming from a traffic stop in southern Cayuga County last fall.
Daniel Vanluven, 56, was sentenced June 12 in Cayuga County Court to an indeterminate prison term of 1 1/3 to 4 years after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction within 10 years, a Class E felony.
Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said the charge resulted from a Sept. 28, 2025 traffic stop in the Town of Sempronius. Vanluven admitted during his March guilty plea that he was operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a blood alcohol content of .15%, according to the district attorney’s office.
The sentence was imposed by Cayuga County Judge Steven Buschman. A conviction for driving while intoxicated becomes a felony in New York when a driver has a prior DWI-related conviction within the previous 10 years.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police. Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Susan Azzarelli prosecuted the case.
