Canandaigua firefighter reflects on career, community service

A longtime member of the Canandaigua Fire Department is sharing his story as part of an effort to highlight the firefighters who serve the community.

Firefighter and EMT Adam Faville, who has spent the last seven years with the Canandaigua Fire Department, said the opportunity to help people during difficult moments in their lives drew him to the profession after careers as an electrician, foreman and armored car service employee.

Faville brings 14 years of fire service experience to the department, including seven years as a volunteer firefighter before transitioning to a career position in Canandaigua. He described being hired at age 47 and successfully completing the New York State Fire Academy as one of the proudest accomplishments of his career.

A resident of the Canandaigua area, Faville said he enjoys serving in the community he calls home and takes pride in helping educate local students through fire safety programs. He said the city’s strong sense of community and its popularity with visitors make it a special place to work.

When he is not on duty, Faville enjoys motorcycle riding, volleyball, hunting and spending time with his wife, Erin, and their three children. The family also enjoys roller skating and life on their farm.
