Cayuga County secures $3.1 million grant for Emerson Park bridge replacement

A long-planned replacement of the bridge connecting visitors to Deauville Island at Emerson Park is moving forward after Cayuga County secured $3.1 million in federal funding for the project.

County Legislature Chairman Jonathan Anna announced Friday that the county was awarded the funding through the Northern Border Regional Commission, calling it a significant investment in one of Cayuga County’s most heavily used recreational assets. The Deauville Island Bridge serves as the primary access point to the island and plays a key role in maintaining public access to Emerson Park.

Anna said the funding will allow the county to replace and improve critical infrastructure while enhancing public safety and supporting tourism and economic activity tied to the park. He added that the award will help advance long-term plans for Emerson Park while reducing costs that would otherwise fall on local taxpayers.

County officials credited the Northern Border Regional Commission and regional congressional representatives for supporting the project. Additional details about construction and the project timeline are expected to be released as planning moves forward.
