East Lake Landing closes for summer renovation project

Visitors planning trips to East Lake Landing this summer will need to make alternate plans as Ontario County prepares to begin a major renovation project at the popular Canandaigua Lake waterfront site.

The Ontario County Department of Public Works announced Wednesday that East Lake Landing, formerly known as Ontario County Beach Park, will be closed for the entire summer season while crews complete a series of upgrades aimed at improving accessibility, safety and visitor amenities. The site is located along State Route 364 in the Town of Gorham.

The project includes fully renovated restrooms, parking lot repaving, upgraded waterfront lighting, a new picnic pavilion, improved sidewalk connections and the addition of a kayak drop-off zone. County officials said the work is expected to be completed this fall.

Public Works Commissioner Chris Day said the temporary closure may create some inconvenience for visitors, but the improvements are expected to create a more welcoming and functional park experience. The project is being supported in part through funding from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

County officials noted that Deep Run Beach, located about one mile south of East Lake Landing, will remain open throughout the summer. Updates on construction progress and reopening plans will be provided as the project moves forward.
