A Cayuga County man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he fraudulently obtained public assistance benefits, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Milford J. Therrian, 67, of Weedsport was arrested June 5 on a welfare fraud warrant issued by Auburn City Court. He was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny, misuse of food stamps and two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, all class E felonies.
Investigators said Therrian was processed on the charges and transported to Auburn City Court for arraignment. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance pending further court proceedings.
The case was investigated by the Cayuga County Department of Social Services Case Integrity Unit, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities did not disclose additional details about the alleged fraud or the amount of benefits involved.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
