Owasco man arrested after woman and child reported missing

A domestic disturbance investigation in Owasco led to multiple charges against a local man after deputies determined a woman and child had fled the residence and sought help from state police.

David P. Centro, 45, of Owasco, was arrested June 1 and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from an incident reported shortly after 11 p.m. on May 31.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially responded after Centro called 911 to report that a woman and child were missing from the residence. A short time later, the woman contacted 911 and reported that she and the child were at a New York State Police barracks to report a domestic incident involving Centro.

Investigators determined that during an argument, Centro allegedly locked the woman outside the home. After she was allowed back inside and attempted to retrieve the child so they could leave, deputies said Centro blocked her movements and threatened her in the child’s presence. Authorities also alleged that Centro took the woman’s cellphone before she was able to escape. Deputies later located the phone inside Centro’s vehicle.

Centro was processed at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building and arraigned in Cayuga County Jail. Bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in Owasco Town Court on June 8.
