Wegmans adds ASL interpreting service at stores

Deaf and hard-of-hearing shoppers can now connect with a live American Sign Language interpreter while shopping at Wegmans, according to Spectrum News. The grocery chain has launched free on-demand interpreting through the Aira ASL app at all of its locations.

Customers can start a video call with a professional interpreter without scheduling ahead or waiting for assistance. Wegmans says the service is designed to make communication between shoppers and employees easier and more efficient.

The company has offered Aira Explorer, a similar service for blind and low-vision customers, since 2018. The new ASL feature expands accessibility options across the supermarket chain.
