A Naples man was arrested on a felony charge early Sunday after Yates County Sheriff’s deputies said he was caught speeding during a STOP-DWI patrol in the Town of Benton.
Deputies said Damien Northrop was stopped around 1:11 a.m. on State Route 14A after allegedly driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. During the traffic stop, investigators determined Northrop’s driver’s license had been suspended to a level that violated New York’s aggravated unlicensed operation statute under Angelica’s Law.
Northrop was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a Class E felony, along with speeding. Authorities said he was transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment proceedings.
Deputy Presher and Sgt. McGuigan responded to the incident as part of the county’s ongoing STOP-DWI enforcement effort over the Memorial Day weekend.
