Skaneateles Library project hits major setback

A proposed new library building in Skaneateles hit a major roadblock after the village planning board rejected the project plans, according to meeting minutes obtained by The Citizen.

Board members voted unanimously to deny the application for the $15 million project at 75 Fennell St., citing 48 areas that failed to meet village code. Concerns ranged from architectural compatibility and traffic flow to landscaping, environmental protections, and pedestrian safety.

The denial won’t stop the project timeline, library leaders said. Trustees plan to revise and resubmit the proposal while still aiming to break ground next spring. Voters will also decide Tuesday on a nearly $1 million tax levy tied to the project.
