A tense Auburn school board meeting erupted Tuesday after members approved a contract extension and raise for Superintendent Dr. Misty Slavic, according to The Citizen. The debate became so heated that Vice President Matteo Bartolotta stepped down from his leadership role during the meeting.
The amendment extends Slavic’s contract through September 2029, increases her salary to more than $200,000, and grants 35 vacation days annually. Several board members blasted the process, saying they received the proposal only 24 hours before the vote and lacked time to properly review it.
The board approved the measure 5-4 after a closed executive session. Supporters praised Slavic’s leadership during a turbulent period for the district, while opponents called the vote fiscally irresponsible and criticized how the amendment reached the agenda days before the district’s budget vote.
