Moravia fifth grader saves choking classmate in school

A Moravia fifth grader jumped into action after a classmate started choking in school, according to The Citizen. Maddelyn Todd performed abdominal thrusts to clear the student’s airway during class at Millard Fillmore Elementary.


Moravia Central School District praised Maddelyn’s quick thinking and calm response during the emergency. Principal Carrie Love told the board of education her actions were immediate and honorable.

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck and board President Neil Stevens honored Maddelyn with special recognition certificates during a May 6 board meeting for her bravery and leadership.
