A collection of historic Marion Police Department artifacts will now stay preserved for future generations, according to the Times of Wayne County. Jonathan Ellsworth donated the items in honor of his late uncle, former Marion Police Officer Stephen DeConinck.
The donation includes DeConinck’s original police badge, Stetson hat, whistle, uniform shirt and patrol car photos from his years serving with the department between 1980 and 1987. The Marion Historical Society accepted the items during the town’s bicentennial year celebrations.
Town officials also issued a proclamation honoring DeConinck’s dedication to public safety and his years protecting the Marion community. Organizers said the artifacts fill a major gap in the town’s police history collection.
