Finger Lakes Chorale to perform free folk music concerts in Canandaigua

A mix of voices from across the Finger Lakes will come together next month to celebrate folk traditions from around the world, with two free performances planned in Canandaigua.

The Finger Lakes Chorale, a community chorus based at Finger Lakes Community College, will present “Folk Songs and Dreams” during concerts scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10.

The first performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main St., followed by a second concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church of Canandaigua, 58 N. Main St. Both events are free and open to the public.

The program features a range of folk music from the United States, Greece, Serbia and Hungary, along with original works by composers including Joel Thompson and Bob Chilcott.

More than 50 singers make up the chorale, blending voices from both the community and the college. The ensemble is directed by Ines Draskovic, professor of music, with accompaniment by adjunct instructor Dylon Walbridge.
