Jack O’Neil was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week after helping Hobart College to a 2-2 week that included a 13-3 win over St. Lawrence University and a 15-14 victory over Ithaca College, as the Statesmen improved to 25-11 overall and 9-5 in Liberty League West play. O’Neil’s consistent production at the plate highlighted a week in which Hobart secured a crossover series berth.
The first-year shortstop hit .471 with a team-high eight RBIs, recording at least two hits in each game while extending his hitting streak to 11 contests. He delivered key moments throughout the week, including a bases-loaded single at Ithaca and a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning of Hobart’s 15-14 win. O’Neil also scored multiple runs against St. Lawrence, continuing a strong debut season in which he leads the team with a .386 average.
Junior third baseman Cole Conte also earned recognition, landing on the Liberty League honor roll after batting .583 across three games. Conte went 7-for-12 with three RBIs and six runs scored, reaching base at a .615 clip. He contributed key hits in both wins, including a game-tying single during Hobart’s comeback victory over Ithaca.
Hobart’s offensive surge helped the Statesmen finish second in the Liberty League West, marking one of the program’s best seasons with 25 wins, a total surpassed only twice in team history.
Hobart opens the Liberty League crossover series against Bard on Friday, May 1 at McDonough Park, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. Game 2 is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, with a potential Game 3 to follow.
