The New York Mets fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1, on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, extending their losing streak to seven games despite another strong pitching performance. New York has now scored just 10 runs over its last seven games, continuing a stretch in which timely hitting has been nearly nonexistent.
Nolan McLean delivered an impressive outing, allowing just one run on two hits across seven innings while striking out eight. The right-hander settled in after a first-inning run scored on a soft contact sequence, retiring 13 consecutive batters at one point and keeping a dangerous Dodgers lineup in check. McLean matched Yoshinobu Yamamoto nearly pitch for pitch, as the Dodgers’ starter allowed just one run over seven-plus innings and retired 20 straight batters after an early mistake.
Francisco Lindor provided the Mets’ only offense, leading off the game with a home run to snap a 20-inning scoreless streak. However, New York could not build on that momentum, managing just four hits and failing to capitalize on limited opportunities late. The Mets threatened in the eighth inning with runners at the corners, but came away empty after a strikeout ended the rally.
The game turned in the bottom half of the eighth, when Brooks Raley allowed a go-ahead RBI single after issuing a leadoff walk. That proved to be the difference, as the Mets went down in order in the ninth inning, unable to mount a final push.
The Mets will look to avoid a sweep when they face the Dodgers on Wednesday at 10:10 p.m.
